Network meetings are a means to keep subject leaders informed and up to date on learning and teaching issues and developments within their respective subject areas. These termly meetings will have three components which will vary in relation to each depending on the current situation within the subject. The three components will be
1. A subject update which will include recent developments and guidance from either local, regional or national sources such as new requirements or reports, new learning and teaching resources or publications.
2. An aspect relating to learning and teaching in the classroom with a strong practical emphasis such as on general planning, assessment, progression, use of specific resources or the teaching of individual aspects of either subject.
3. Issues, topics or content decided upon by yourselves. This aspect is important to ensure that the meetings set out to meet your needs and concerns. Suggestions should be sent in advance or discussed at previous meetings to allow for planning and preparation to take place.
These meetings will be supplemented by a small number of more focused courses for both subjects where there will be a very practical approach taken to specific themes or topics which will be advertised through the STA network and publicity.
Alun Morgan – RE Biography
Alun Morgan worked as a School Improvement Adviser in Shropshire for over 25 years. He has contributed to the development of all the local Agreed Syllabuses since 1991 and has led the reviews of every syllabus since 2005. Throughout this time, he has provided professional support to Shropshire SACRE ensuring a link between the work of SACRE and an understanding of the provision and teaching of religious education in Shropshire. As part of the above he has led a range of training sessions for primary teachers and has done much to bring together members of different faith groups to provide support and guidance for RE teachers in the classroom. Recent work has included the organization of Introduction to Islam conferences to break down barriers for children in meeting and learning about local Muslims. Current work involves bringing in members of the different faith communities in Shropshire to run a series of introduction sessions for teachers with the aim of developing expertise and building bridges between schools and faith communities across the county.
