Dates:   23rd November 2017
1.00pm – 4.00pm

Course Outline:

Engaging, interesting, exciting and challenging learning in history is underpinned by effective teaching and planning. This course will explore, through practical examples, one method of interpreting the national requirements for both key stage 1 and 2 into structured historical enquiries which can then be adapted by schools into broader curriculum approaches such as themes or integrated topics.

Starting from the national curriculum requirements the course will look at developing enquiries appropriate for all age groups; will link the content with the relevant skills, concepts and processes; and explore how these can be structured to produce skeleton outlines onto which schools can then add the flesh in terms of wider links to other subject areas.

At the end of the course delegates will take away the understanding of this process and how it can be applied across the history curriculum; approximately 20 skeletons covering both key stages; and examples of learning activities and resources to further support learning and teaching in the primary classroom.
