Course Outline:

What on earth do I do with early Islamic civilization?

Including a study of Baghdad c. AD 900; the Mayan civilization c. AD 900; and Shang China, this course is aimed specifically at KS2 teachers of history and will explore practical ways of teaching and resourcing these three difficult and challenging areas of the current history curriculum.

The aim will be to develop these three aspects into broader cross -curriculum approaches and also focus on the contribution each of these will make to SMSC

Participants will gain a basic understanding of the history of early Islamic civilisation, the Maya and Shang China.

Participants will gain an understanding of the available resources to support the teaching of these three areas to KS2 children.

Participants will take away ideas and examples of medium term planning/schemes of work to support their teaching back in the classroom.
